Install VirtualBox guest additions on AlmaLinux 9 / Rocky 9 It’s important to maintain the same version of Guest Additions between the Oracle VM and the guest OS hosted on the VM. However, these need to be updated to the latest versions for more security and performance features. Automated logins – This allows credential passing between the guest and the host.Įvery version of Oracle VM VirtualBox ships with its own version of Guest Additions.Shared clipboard – This ensures that the clipboard of the guest OS is shared with the host OS.This is by regular resynchronization of time between the host and the guest.
Time synchronization – The Guest Additions ensure better time synchronization between the guest and host systems. This way, the applications can be launched and started from the host machine. The guest properties provide a generic string-based mechanism that helps to exchange data bits between guest and host. Generic hosts/guest communication channels – Guest Additions help in controlling and monitoring guest execution. This makes the underlying application feel like it’s running on the host machine. Seamless windows – It’s easier to map the individual windows displayed on the virtual machine desktop to that of the host’s desktop. When Guest Additions are installed, 3D graphics and 2D video for guests can be accelerated. This also helps in resizing the VMs machine window by automatically adjusting the video resolution. Better Video support – The custom video drivers installed with the Guest Additions provide extra high and non-standard video modes and accelerated video performance. Shared folders – This facilitates sharing of files between the host and the guest. For this seamless mouse pointer integration, a special mouse driver is installed in the guest to aid in communication with the physical mouse driver on the host machine to move the guest mouse pointer accordingly. Mouse pointer integration – This provides seamless mouse support between the Host machine and the Guest OS running inside the Virtual Machine. Guest Additions has the following features. To install the VirtualBox guest additions for a VM, mount the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso file in your Virtual Machine as a virtual CD-ROM and install them from there. 
Guest Additions are provided as a single CD-ROM image file known as VBoxGuestAdditions.iso located in the installation directory of Oracle VM VirtualBox. Guest Additions are simply device drivers and system applications that optimize the guest operating system for better performance and usability. Guest Additions are designed to be installed in a Virtual Machine after the guest operating system has been installed. VirtualBox is programmed in Python, C, C++, and Assembly language.
